Cameroon – Sustainable Forests, Stronger Value Chains and Climate Finance

On behalf of GIZ Cameroon, IPROconsult Morocco developed the project concept for the second phase of the “Promotion of Forests, Environment and Climate II (ProFEC II)” programme and prepared a project proposal for the BMZ. Building on the experience of the first phase, an integrated approach was developed to further strengthen the transition towards sustainable, transparent and inclusive management of forest resources in Cameroon.

Forest protection as a foundation for sustainable development

ProFEC II forms part of the BMZ action area on forests and makes an important contribution to the conservation of the Congo Basin rainforest. The project focuses on sustainable forest management, strengthening value chains, and mobilising financial resources for climate action and biodiversity conservation.

Three key areas:

Sustainable and transparent forest management
ProFEC II supports the further development of digital systems for wood legality and traceability, contributes to the national forest inventory, and supports municipalities and local stakeholders in the sustainable management of community and municipal forests.

Sustainable value chains
Timber and non-timber forest products are to be used and marketed more effectively and sustainably. To this end, the project promotes cooperation between producers, companies, public authorities and other stakeholders, while strengthening in particular the economic participation of local and indigenous communities and women.

Financing climate and biodiversity protection
ProFEC II helps improve the legal and financial framework conditions for mobilising additional resources for forest conservation, climate action and biodiversity protection. Digital tools for transparent financial management at the municipal level will also be further developed.

The project works closely with government institutions, municipalities, the private sector and civil society. Coordination with other international partners and donors creates synergies and strengthens joint efforts to protect and sustainably use Cameroon’s forests.
